Potassium is an important mineral for biological functions. In this study, potassium was recovered from a low-grade potash mineral, feldspar through chlorination roasting followed by water leaching.
A feldspar is typically referred to as 'potash' if there is significantly more potassium than sodium (typically there will be 2-5% Na 2 O ). If the amounts are closer to equal they are termed potash-soda feldspars (or vice versa). Of course, real potash feldspars also have small amounts of CaO, MgO, Fe 2 O 3, etc.
The annual production of feldspars in the world is estimated to be around 26 Mt in 2019. The feldspar production is led by Turkey (∼7.5 Mt) and followed by Italy (∼4 Mt), India (∼4 Mt) and China (∼2 Mt) [10, 11]. The world feldspar market was USD 547.0 million in 2017 and it is estimated to attain USD 745.7 million by 2022.

Published Sep 27, 2023. Feldspars are important ingredients in clay bodies and glazes. In both applications, their primary function is to supply fluxes to the formulations, but they also provide additional alumina (Al2O3) and silica (SiO2). Feldspars are naturally occurring minerals and are generally classified as either potash (potassium) or ...
Processes for potassium extraction from abundant K-feldspar have recently attracted interest to ensure potash self-sufficiency for developing countries. Concurrently, distiller waste and soda residue formed in the ammonia-soda process (Solvay method) have resulted in serious pollution. A method of potassium extraction from K-feldspar with …

Production of pure CaCl 2 requires separation of CaCl 2 from Na 2 CO 3, whereas our process produces CaCl 2 without employing any separation process as the byproduct of our process, i.e., CO 2, evaporates during in situ production, and H 2 O helps in proper …
In this paper, the molecular sieves with high added value were creatively prepared from roasting clinker obtained by the process that NaOH-Na2CO3 mixed alkali as auxiliary agent calcined potash feldspar, which could extract the silicon it contains. Firstly, the optimum roasting conditions for SiO2 extraction rate were determined through single …

1. Introduction. Feldspars are a group of aluminosilicate minerals containing potassium, sodium, and calcium, and occasionally, barium, cesium, and isomorph composition of these elements (Heyes et al., 2013, King, xxxx).Feldspars are highly important in various industrial applications, such as in the production of glass and …

Alkali feldspar microtextures have been investigated by many techniques. Their known complexity has increased over many years, reaching its current apogee in feldspars from the Klokken intrusion (Fig. 2; Parsons et al. 2013) that contain at least eight chemically distinct phases, some of them twinned in up to four orientations. The present …
